Facility Overview

The Wando Welch Terminal is the largest container terminal in the Port of Charleston. It sits on 400 acres and handles 78% of the port’s container traffic. The terminal can process up to 2.4 million TEUs and can handle 20,000 TEU vessels. The facility has 1,274 reefer outlets and 15 post-Panamax gantry cranes. It has four berths with a wharf length of 3,800 linear feet and a depth of 45 feet. Situated at the mouth of the Wando River, the terminal is the only terminal located outside the city limits of Charleston.
