Facility Overview
The Port of New Orleans added the 12-acre Mississippi River Intermodal Terminal to provide an on-dock intermodal railyard for the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal. It has access to six Class 1 railroad yards. The intermodal terminal has 6,000 linear feet of track and five acres of paving for container provisioning. Its two electric rubber-tire gantry cranes transfer containers to and from rail cars. The terminal is capable of handling 160,000 TEUs per year. The relocation of the intermodal terminal frees the waterfront for more valuable container handling.
