Facility Overview

The Bayport Container Terminal has five operational births and a 314-acre container yard. Together with sister facility, Barbours Cut, it processed over 330,000 TEUs per month in 2023, marking a significant increase over recent years. This Houston boom was largely driven by post-COVID congestion at LA-Long Beach. 97% of traffic through Bayport is container, with an average ship turnaround time of 1.7 days. Port of Houston has committed $560m to upgrades to Bayport Container Terminal’s, including the construction of additional wharves and STS cranes, as well as adding computerized inventory control systems and electronic data interchange capabilities.
